Korey McMahon Sweeps the Confluence Stage with Motivation

Korey McMahon on the Confluence stage

Korey McMahon walked onto the Confluence stage with the energy and enthusiasm of a professional snowboarder. Oh wait, he was. This ball of positivity kicked off his talk with his life story, and trust us, we ate it up.

From snowboarding to becoming the first member in his family to go to college, all the way to marrying his lovely wife and working for Mountain Dew, life has taught Korey a few lessons along the way.

Lesson 1: Hard Work Pays Off

In the words of Korey, “I love it when people tell me ‘you can’t do it.’ That’s our fuel, right?” After taking a leap of faith, he moved his family to Oklahoma because “nothing great happens from your comfort zone.”  After getting fired from a marketing agency, he opened up his own shop and has been hustling ever since.

Being courageous enough to fail breeds success. You should be okay with the possibility that you may fail. But work hard, try new things, and step outside of your comfort zone.

Lesson 2: Follow a System to Achieve Your Goals

The one thing deterring you from accomplishing all the dreams and goals you have is your choices. Make tiny, day-to-day choices that take you closer in the direction of your goals. Real success takes time, don’t buy the “get quick rich” hype. Posing the question to the audience, Korey asked, “What do successful people and unsuccessful people have in common? Neither of them likes to do what it takes to be successful, but the successful person does it anyways.”

Intrigued? Korey promised a system that could make your life looks unrecognizable in 2 – 3 years.

  • Ask yourself: what did I achieve in the last year? Reflect.
  • Ask yourself: what does success mean to me? You have to answer this question for yourself, and define what you need to do next to succeed.
  • Write a letter to yourself. Date it one year from today, and tell yourself the things you accomplished to make it the best year of your life. Write about it as if you have accomplished your goals, and go into great detail about this process.

Lesson 3: Make SMART Goals

They don’t call them SMART goals for nothing. These goals are:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time-based

People who write down their goals will outperform those who don’t, 10-to-1. But what does that mean for you? Well, start by writing your goals down, of course.

So go ahead, step outside of your comfort zone. Like Korey said, nothing great will ever happen there anyways.
