OKC has been serving up some really awesome options for fresh-pressed veggie juices and super-healthy smoothies recently. (Thanks to Kitchen324, OrganicSqueeze, Whole Foods OKC, and Health Nut Cafe – you guys got the juice trend rolling!) And now we have a food truck (!!) entirely dedicated to the art of juicing.
It’s called Super Juice. And it is, as you might’ve guessed from its name, super good. Soooo good!
So – the juice.
I found Super Juice outside of Plenty Mercantile on a sunny Friday afternoon. I had researched the menu ahead of time and had decided I’d be ordering the Super Carrot. I really like carrots, and I really like juice.
A little background:
- According to friends, family, and the headshot on my badge for the office, I have actually taken on an orange tint from regular and overzealous carrot consumption. (See: Magic School Bus / Arnold / Sea Wheedies. Same damn thing.)
- It is not uncommon for me to talk about how my juicer is sub-optimal because it doesn’t adequately “extract nutrients.”
…I’m not good at telling stories, but I’m good at making lists.
The point is – I know a good carrot juice concoction from a murky, vegetable-aggressive tincture.
The Super Carrot is a blend of carrot, orange, ginger, and lemon. It’s not as spicy as your standard carrot-apple-cayenne blend, but it’s got a nice kick – and it’s definitely fresh. The family in front of me got four Peanut Butter Cup smoothies, and they all seemed pleased.
For those of you who have qualms about spending $7 on a drink, consider this:
- A Super Juice portion is 16oz for both juices and smoothies – 25% more by volume than a juice from your local grocery store. And that sized smoothie could definitely count for a meal.
- Unlike your $2 Diet Coke (guilty as charged), your 16-oz. cup is packed to the brim with actual food, vitamins, and happiness.
- Super Juice uses local ingredients where possible (peanut butter, honey) and makes produce the star of the drink – not the sidekick.
In short: you’re getting a lot of substance for your money. A fresh drank from Super Juice will cure your ills, make the sun come out, and make you feel – say it with me – super.
And that’s what makes the Super Juice truck worth stalking. It’s one thing to blend up beets + kale + antioxidant-rich berries + sad-face-fighting-herbs and put a $12 price tag on the bottle. It’s entirely different to make the stuff taste amazing – and make it accessible.
