Oklahoma City’s first developer boot camp teaches coding and software skills

As Oklahoma’s start-up community has grown, so has the need for capable software developers.

With other startup-rich areas around the country hosting developer boot camps, why can’t we?

Well Phillip Dow, working with the  OU Center for Creation of Economic WealthTailwind and Phase 2 Interactive,  created OK Coders.

This 10-week course will give developers of all experience levels a chance to enhance their coding skills and will serve as a new talent source for Oklahoma’s ever growing number of tech start-ups.

“We’ve prepared an incredible program for our students,” said Dow, who is lead instructor for the curriculum and Developer-in-Residence at the OU CCEW (AND Confluence Con 2014 presenter). “Participants will be able to come in with limited to no web development experience and leave ready for internships with local tech startups.”

The curriculum will start with basic HTML and CSS and progress into JavaScript and node.js.

OK Coders will run from June 2-August 6. The sessions will take place two nights-a-week for two hours each night.

You can apply for a spot in the inaugural boot camp at www.okcoders.com and be sure to follow @OKCoders.

And don’t miss Phillip Dow’s talk at this year’s Confluence Conference.
