As part of our exploration of the Oklahoma digital influencer landscape I thought we should take the time to focus on our very own Oklahoma power pinners.
I used Tailwind Pinterest and Instagram analytics out of Oklahoma City to do the heavy lifting. And you can learn about branding on Pinterest from Tailwind CEO Daniel Maloney, one of the speakers in the Confluence 2013 lineup.

Cozy Kitchens (7000 followers) – Brenda Kula’s cozylittlehouse.com spills out all over Pinterest, and people love it. Think your favorite auntie’s take on Southern Living.
Oklahoma City Thunder Up (27,000 followers) – Mary Nelson’s Pinterest tribute to all things OKC Thunder
Pins for Friends (20,000 followers) – Ashley Ridgeway’s collaborative board, where friends pin things for friends and tag them. Some ideas just work.
That Sh*t Cray (1,000 followers) – Christina Osborne’s board is a freak show of stuff that if it is real, shouldn’t be.
Vintage! (2.000 followers) – “Dreamed of Clothing” is a vintage clothing EBay shop so it makes sense that they’re pinning a lot of styles and fashions that have come around again.
Fitness, Nutrition & Wellness (12,000 followers) – Having dropped 100+ pounds our friend Michael Leaming knows a thing or two about health and fitness. Get ready to be inspired, or just to feel really bad about yourself.
Currently Loving (9,000 followers) – Sarah Kate Studios are about ‘scouting and styling’ and this board shows them at their best, from fashion to furniture, they just have a great eye, or should I say eyes? Frankly, their Tumblr is even better.
DIY Kid’s Stuff (2,230 followers) – Debi Hamilton is all about the treasure hunt, and DIY, and recipes, and she’s built up quite a following.
Adore My World (700 followers) – The “It Works” team sell a lot of weight loss products, but their interests are a lot broader than that if you look at their Pinterest boards. Adore my world features a lot of wide-eyed felines, makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
Tasty Recipes (1000 followers) – Marcy Gurney’s board is classic Pinterest, delicious looking food, linking through to recipes, featuring Oklahoma’s own Pioneer Woman.
What do they have in common?
Whilst our little slice of Oklahoma pinners confirm some of the commonly held beliefs about Pinterest – that it’s predominately for women, that it’s crafts, fashion and food obsessed – our Oklahoma pinners also show interests way beyond that. They’re pinning for Oklahoma, to drive business to their EBay or Etsy shop, to help and inspire others, to connect with friends, or just for a good laugh.
There’s no doubting the value of Pinterest in the lives of those who love it, and a great pinner shows all kinds of aspects of their life through the content they curate. Opening up a power pinner’s profile should be a lot like meeting someone for the first time, there’s first impressions, but there’s depth there too, there are interests and behind them there’s passion.
