Why We Confluence

We love this city. You can go downtown and feel like you’re in a sprawling metropolis, or go to one of our districts (Plaza, Paseo, Midtown, Uptown 23rd, etc.) and feel like you’re in a hip pocket of something bigger – something that takes the culture of a “big city” and nails it on the small scale. Or, you can stay home and watch Netflix without the distracting sound pollution of other cities.

The local food scene is out of control, and there are plenty of welcoming patios to satisfy your need to day-drink. There are unique community events like H&8th, top notch breweries (Coop, Roughtail, etc.), and a thriving marketing tech community. 2014-05-30 20.14.28Not to mention, OKC is home to the 2016 NBA Champions (we can hope, right?). OKC is on the rise, and we want to contribute where we can. One way is to make the Confluence Conference the best that it can be. We want to help build a digital marketing community right here in the breadbasket of our nation.

The Confluence team has worked very hard to make sure the conference is a comprehensive resource for digital marketing professionals, as well as a great “look-in” to our industry for people wanting to learn more. Confluence isn’t a sales pitch or a marketing ploy. It is simply an opportunity to bring in the best speakers, produce the best content, and place Oklahoma City on the conference map.

The first Confluence was planned and executed in about two months. It was a whirlwind of planning, promotion, speaker recruitment, and a lot of fun. That year, the conference pursued speakers who pitched topics that could be broadly applicable to a wide range of professions or uses. The topics were about half inspirational and half actionable. In our eyes, it was a big success. But we knew it had plenty of room to grow.  We saw the potential of the conference and had a ton of fun hanging out with digital marketers like ourselves.

In 2014, we started planning earlier. Confluence had more structure and more narrowed-down topics. However, it was still slanted toward inspirational local speakers and topics. The feedback we received from last year’s survey was clear: People overwhelmingly approved of the conference, but wanted more actionable topics and speakers.

You spoke. We listened.YOU ARE SIMPLY THE

This year, Confluence is a two-day event that takes place on a Thursday and Friday to cater to professionals working in digital marketing. We have bolstered our speaker lineup in a big way. These speakers are leaders in SEO, social media, SEM, branding, content marketing, and more and will leave you with real, actionable insights you can take back and apply to your work to provide your clients and your company more value.

No more Oklahoma-centered topics. No more rousing speeches without action. Just two days of real, actionable content.

Although the focus is on amazing speakers and content, we didn’t forget to keep the feel of the event unique. We’ll keep everyone fed with some of the best grub OKC has to offer, clothed in a snazzy event tee, and engaged with each other via fun social media contests. We’re even including a new event this year: Confluence After Hours. This will be the meet-and-greet on Thursday evening at Fassler Hall that you won’t want to miss.

Come to Confluence. Learn new skills. Represent your company. Be a part of the digital marketing community.

About Kyle Elrod

I was born back in October of 1985. I spent my childhood getting my lumps in the mean streets of Enid, Oklahoma. I survived those harsh adolescent years and made my way to the University of Oklahoma. I decided to study the ancient art of advertising at the Gaylord School of Mass Communication. I fumbled around for a short while before landing a gig in the digital marketing department with OPUBCO. This is where I spend my time and use my talents.
